Building a Comprehensive Training plan that covers multiple modules, integrations, services, and basic understanding of how these Quality Management systems work can be daunting. Here are 5 steps that we utilize in strategically laying out a new tailored training program for a Quality Management Software customer:
- Develop a project plan and follow it – Even if you know this is necessary, it still needs to be said. A project plan will help you organize and stay on top of the entire development and design process. Think of this as a high level roadmap with milestones along the way to ensure all aspects of the training solution are covered.
- Storyboard the visuals – It’s extremely helpful to storyboard all the training programs. If your training consists of videos that are linked or are part of a series, creating a storyboard will help you keep all of these features aligned and grouped. It’s also great for those of us who can’t remember lunch yesterday, so it helps to keep you from forgetting items. 😉
- Transcribe all of the language/wording before recording – To me, this is huge. I don’t want to hear someone in a a training video saying “um, uh, ah” throughout the entire video collection. It’s very unprofessional, and if these videos will be used for years to come for training, making it as professional as possible goes a really long way.
- Use a quality recording solution – Training can be difficult when working with software. Unknown errors, outages, and other unexpected issues can quickly arise. It’s important to have a quality recording tool that wil allow you to delete and cut sections, then splice the video back together easily. Otherwise, you will spend an incredible amount of time re-recording.
- Know the software you are training over – This is by far the most important of all 5 items. If you do not know the software, your training solution will not add value. You have to spend your time using the software, learning the ins and outs of the application, and making sure that you can answer any questions that come in. This is critical.
